LHA Rates
Local housing allowance (LHA) is the way that housing benefit is calculated and paid to tenants who live in private rented accommodation. It is usually paid to the claimant, but may be paid direct to the landlord in certain circumstances.
The level of Local Housing Allowance depends on your household composition.
Size criteria guidance tells us the number of bedrooms you need for your household. Once we know how many bedrooms you are assessed as needing, we can work out the maximum LHA rate for a home of that size.
You are allowed one bedroom for:
- Every adult couple
- Any other adult (aged 16 or over)
- Any two children under 10
- Any two children of the same sex aged 10 to 15
- Any other child
Please refer to Bedroom Calculation external link on this page.
