SUBMITTED:  Report dated 8 July 1998 by the Director of Central Services advising that a request had been received from Strathclyde Joint Police Board arising from its approval in principle of a motion submitted by Argyll and Bute Council regarding the disposal of revenue received from fixed penalty speeding offences and seeking the views of other Member Authorities on the terms of the motion as follows:- "That the Scottish Office be asked to agree that all revenue from speeding offences be paid to Strathclyde Joint Police Board who in turn would allocate 65% to the Chief Constable to improve Police Services and 35% to the 12 Unitary Authorities to improve their road and street systems.  Other motoring offences which are dealt with by the fixed penalty/conditional offer scheme should also be included in this request.  The resultant figures of "Operation Speed Check" warrant the retention of this operation, the cost of which would be covered by the financial returns should this request be successful."

DECIDED:  That the Committee agree to support the terms of the motion as detailed above.
