The Director of Central Services referred to a report by the Depute Chief Executive regarding the sale of a Council property in Greenock. The Convener indicated that consideration of the item was urgent in view of the need to determine the future of the property at the earliest possible date and moved that the item be added to the Agenda. This was unanimously agreed in terms of the relevant Standing Order.

SUBMITTED: Report by the Director of Information Technology on the position regarding the transitional support for inherited SRC information technology systems and requesting the Committee to consider an alternative support for some of those systems.
DECIDED:
(a) That the contents of the report be noted;
(b) That the external support for application maintenance support for financial management systems and possible development work for both the financial management systems and the social work information systems be continued; and
(c) That the tender for such services from Business Computer Technology in the sum of £38,000 for 15 months and up to £32,000 for future works be accepted, the cost of the tender to be met from the existing 1996/97 and 1997/98 Revenue Budgets.

LICENSING OF TAXI DRIVERS - SCHOOL TRANSPORT - VETTING OF DRIVERS |

SUBMITTED: Report dated 8 January 1997 by the Director of Central Services regarding the different standards applied to an individual when he applies to be licensed as a taxi driver under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 and when he is considered for the purposes of carrying out school transport work in a contract with the education authority.
DECIDED: That it be remitted to the Director of Central Services to submit a further report on the feasibility of combining the licensing and vetting procedures of the authority in its two capacities.

SUBMITTED: Report by the Director of Central Services advising of the circumstances relating to the application for renewal of a taxi driver's licence by Thomas Greene and the action taken under Standing Order 66 to refuse that licence and to seek delegated authority from the Committee to deal with similar future circumstances.
DECIDED: That the contents of the report be noted and that authority be delegated to the Director of Central Services to refuse future applications for taxi driver's licences where, subsequent to the making of the application, the applicant has lost his ordinary driving licence.

SUBMITTED: Report dated 18 December 1996 by the Director of Central Services on an application for a taxi driver's licence by Daniel Bonnar following an objection by the Chief Constable that the applicant is not a fit and proper person to hold such a licence by virtue of his previous convictions. The Committee heard Chief Superintendent Stewart and Mr Bonnar. Following discussion, Councillor Clocherty moved that the application be granted. As an amendment, Councillor Rebecchi moved that the application be refused. On a vote, one Member voted for the amendment and four for the motion which was declared carried.
DECIDED: That the application be granted.
