SUBMITTED: Report dated 9 May 1997 by the Director of Transportation and Roads requesting the Committee to determine spending priorities in respect of the Capital Programme 1997/98.
DECIDED:
(a) That the projects as detailed in priority order in the report be included in the Capital Programme 1997/98; and
(b) That the reserve projects as detailed in priority order in the report be included in the Capital Programme 1997/98 should additional funding become available.

REVENUE WORKS PROGRAMME 1997/98 |

SUBMITTED: Report dated 15 May 1997 by the Director of Transportation and Roads advising that pending submission of proposals for the re-surfacing of carriageways and footways throughout Inverclyde for 1997/98 to the Committee, his Department would continue to implement the programme previously approved by the Committee at its meeting on 13 June 1996 (para 489) for 1996/97.
DECIDED:
(a) That the current position in respect of the revenue works programme be noted; and
(b) That the Director of Transportation and Roads report to the next meeting of the Committee on the carriageway and footway re-surfacing programme for 1997/98.

GREENOCK THROUGH ROUTE STRATEGY |

SUBMITTED: Report dated 15 May 1997 by the Director of Transportation and Roads requesting the Committee to confirm the High Route previously approved by the former Inverclyde District and Strathclyde Regional Councils as the Greenock through route.
DECIDED:
(a) That the Committee confirm the promotion of the High Route (Dellingburn Street, Baker Street, Drumfrochar Road, Cornhaddock Street and Dunlop Street) as the Greenock through route;
(b) That it be remitted to the Director of Transportation and Roads to undertake a study to confirm current traffic movements on the High Route; and
(c) That the Director of Transportation and Roads make representations to the Scottish Office Development Department to approve the trunking of the High Route, without prejudice to the existing trunk status of the A8 and A78 in Inverclyde.

SUBMITTED: Report dated 12 May 1997 by the Director of Central Services on a request from Councillor Nimmo that the Committee be updated on the traffic situation at Dunlop Street and Drumfrochar Road, Greenock.
DECIDED: That the request by Councillor Nimmo be noted and that any issues referred to at the public meeting held on 10 March 1997 be dealt with by the appropriate Officers.

QUALITY TRANSPORT PARTNERSHIPS |

SUBMITTED: Report dated May 1997 by the Director of Transportation and Roads recommending that the Council agree to participate in discussions with Strathclyde Passenger Transport, Renfrewshire Council and local bus operators with a view to the establishment of Quality Transport Partnerships. The report outlined the aims and objectives of the Partnership concept and identified a number of issues which could be addressed by the partners.
DECIDED:
(a) That the terms of the report be noted; and
(b) That the Director of Transportation and Roads participate in discussions with Strathclyde Passenger Transport, Renfrewshire Council and bus operators on the establishment of Quality Transport Partnerships.

SUBMITTED: Report dated 8 May 1997 by the Director of Transportation and Roads on the Kerbcraft Training Scheme designed to assist in teaching basic Road Safety to young schoolchildren and seeking authority to implement a trial scheme in primary schools in Inverclyde.
DECIDED: That it be remitted to the Director of Transportation and Roads in consultation with the Director of Education Services to implement a trial Kerbcraft Training Scheme in 1-2 primary schools in Inverclyde.

STANDING LIST OF CONTRACTORS |

SUBMITTED: Report dated 8 May 1997 by the Director of Transportation and Roads recommending extension of the use of the former Strathclyde Regional Council's standing list of contractors adopted by the Committee at the meeting on 1 May 1996 (para 341) and extended until 30 June 1997 by the Committee at the meeting on 4 March 1997 (para 260).
DECIDED:
(a) That approval be given to the continued use of the standing list of contractors until 31 December 1997 or until the Standing Orders relating to contracts are adopted by the Council and a new list of contractors compiled and approved by the Council;
(b) That the Director of Transportation and Roads notify those contractors currently on the standing list of contractors of the continued use of the current list; and
(c) That the Director of Transportation and Roads liaise with the Director of Central Services regarding the compilation of the new standing list of contractors.
