Provision of Elderly Accommodation: Findings of Working Group

There was submitted a report dated 3 October 2000 by the Director of Social Work and Housing Services setting out the various issues which had been considered by the Services for Older People Working Group to enable the Committee to ascertain the type of services which should be provided for older people in the future.  The report advised that the Working Group had recommended that the Council should remain a provider of some services for older people.

There was circulated to the Committee the second page of Appendix 1 to the report (Audit Commission Report SR2000/5: Fundamental Procedures to be Observed when Reviewing and/or Changing Methods of Service Delivery).

Decided:

(1) that the Committee’s preference for the future provision of accommodation for older people be Option 2 (New Build) which failing Option 3 (Refurbishment and Extension of Kempock House) and that Option 5 (Closure of Both Homes) be used for comparison purposes;

(2) that it be remitted to the Corporate Management Team to consider these three options further with a view to a detailed report being submitted to the Social Work and Housing and Policy and Strategy Committees taking into account the Council’s capital budget and three year revenue budget; and

(3) that it be agreed that the Services for Older People Working Group be reconvened to oversee the detailed implementation of the agreed proposal.
