The Committee heard a presentation by Mr Richard Beal and Ms Lynn Bradley of Messrs Chapman Hendy Consultants on the valuation and options appraisal of the Council’s housing stock as set out in the Consultants’ final report of May 2000, copies of which had been circulated to Members.  (Provost Roach entered the meeting during consideration of this item of business).

The Committee then asked a number of questions relative to the information contained in the executive summary of the report and these were answered by Mr Beal and Ms Bradley.  Following discussion, Councillor McCabe moved (1) that a Member/Officer Working Group be established to examine in detail the findings of the report by Messrs Chapman Hendy, in particular the options for the future of the Council’s housing stock and (2) that the Working Group comprise 8 Members, 5 from the Majority Group and 3 from the Minority Groups to be nominated by the Leader of the Minority Groups and that the Majority Group’s representatives be Councillors Jackson, McCabe, Morrison (D), O’Rourke and Robertson (A).

As an amendment, Councillor Mitchell moved that the matter be continued to the meeting of The Inverclyde Council on 22 June 2000.  On a vote, 4 Members voted for the amendment and 5 for the motion which was declared carried.  Those Members who had voted in favour of the amendment then requested in terms of the relevant Standing Order that the matter be referred to The Inverclyde Council for decision in terms of the amendment.
