PERSONNEL (APPEALS AND APPLIED CONDITIONS

OF SERVICE) SUB-COMMITTEE

 

WEDNESDAY 14 JANUARY 1998 - 2.00 pm

 

Present:- Councillors O'Rourke, Jackson, Sir Simpson Stevenson, Rebecchi, Welch and Campbell (for Councillor Nimmo), Councillor Sir Simpson Stevenson, Convener, in the Chair.

 

In attendance:- Mr A S Grant (for the Director of Central Services), Mr H McNeilly (for the Director of Legal Services) and the Director of Personnel Services.

 

An apology for absence was intimated on behalf of Councillor Clocherty.

 

The following paragraphs are submitted for information only, having been dealt with under the powers delegated to the Sub-Committee.

 

     49      ADDITIONAL AGENDA ITEM                                                                                                               49

 

The Convener referred to a grievance appeal by a former employee in the Department of Finance and advised that consideration of the item was urgent to allow the appeal to be heard without delay and moved that the item be added to the Agenda.  This was unanimously agreed in terms of the relevant Standing Order.

 

     50      RESOLUTION : EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS                                                                      50

 

On the motion of the Convener it was agreed unanimously that, in terms of Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the public and press be excluded from the

meeting during consideration of the undernoted items of business on the grounds that consideration of the items involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraph 1 of Part I of Schedule 7(A) of the Act.

 

     51      GRIEVANCE APPEAL - FORMER EMPLOYEE IN DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE                          51

The Sub-Committee considered a grievance appeal on behalf of a former employee in the Department of Finance and decided that the appeal be not upheld, all as detailed in the Appendix.

 

     52      APPEAL AGAINST DISMISSAL - EMPLOYEE IN CONTRACT SERVICES DIVISION                  52

 

The Sub-Committee considered an appeal against dismissal on behalf of an employee in the Contract Services Division and decided that the appeal be upheld in part and that the employee be reinstated to his post in the Contract Services Division, all as detailed in the Appendix.
