LICENSING AND REGISTRATION PANEL

Present:-  Councillors Calvert, Morrison (D), Morrison (M), Nimmo and Rebecchi, Councillor Morrison (D), Convener, in the Chair.

 

In attendance:-  Mr H McNeilly (for the Executive Director Legal, Information & Support Services) and the Director of Central Services.

 

Apologies for absence were intimated on behalf of Councillors Mulholland and McCormick.

 

The following paragraphs are submitted for information only, having been dealt with under the powers delegated to the Panel.

 

   643      RESOLUTION:  EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS                                                                    643

 

On the motion of the Convener, it was agreed unanimously that, in terms of Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 as amended, the public and press be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the undernoted item of business on the grounds that consideration of the item involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraph 6 of Part I of Schedule 7(A) of the Act.

 

   644      REQUEST FOR SUSPENSION OF TAXI DRIVER'S LICENCE:  GARY ROE                                   644

 

SUBMITTED:  Report dated 8 June 1999 by the Executive Director Legal, Information & Support Services advising that, following the procedure of consultation under the Scheme of Delegation, the Taxi Driver's Licence held by Mr Gary Roe was suspended temporarily from 28 May 1999 and requesting the Panel to consider the suspension of that licence on the grounds that Mr Roe is no longer a fit and proper person to hold a Taxi Driver's Licence by virtue of his previous convictions as detailed by the Chief Constable, Strathclyde Police.

The Panel heard Acting Chief Inspector Irvine, the Director of Central Services on behalf of the Licensing Authority, Ms Gordon, agent for Mr Roe, and Mr Roe himself.

DECIDED:

(a)  That the temporary suspension of the Taxi Driver's Licence held by Mr Roe be noted;  and

(b)  That the Taxi Driver's Licence held by Mr Gary Roe be suspended with immediate effect for its duration.
