Chair:  Provost Roach presided.

In attendance:  Chief Executive, Depute Chief Executive, Director of Community and Protective Services, Mr J Sutherland (for Director of Education Services), Mr G Douglas (for Director of Legal and Support Services), Director of Social Work & Housing Services, Acting Director of Finance and Head of Accountancy Services.

Statutory Reports SR2001/1 and SR2001/3:  Accounts Commission Findings

There was submitted a report dated 18 June 2001 by the Chief Executive (1) advising that the Accounts Commission on 13 June 2001 had considered (a) the progress report on Inverclyde Council by the Controller of Audit (SR2001/3) following the assessment of progress against the Council’s action plan carried out by the Council's external auditors Messrs PricewaterhouseCoopers dated May 2001 and (b) the Council's response to statutory report SR2001/1 as agreed on 30 May 2001, (2) appending a copy of the Accounts Commission's findings and (3) requesting the Council to consider the statutory reports and the Accounts Commission's findings and agree a response to the Commission.

Decided:  on the motion of Councillor Jackson seconded by Councillor O'Rourke that the response of Inverclyde Council to the report by the Controller of Audit (SR2001/3) and the findings of the Accounts Commission be as set out in Appendix 3 to the Chief Executive's report of 18 June 2001.
