There was submitted a report dated 8 December 1999 by the Director of Legal and Support Services on a request received from West Dunbartonshire Council that the Council consider a ban on the use of warrant sales and poindings for personal debts.

Decided:  that there be no alteration to the Council's current debt collection policy and that it be remitted to the Directors of Legal and Support Services and Resource Services to report to the Corporate Business Committee on the success of the current debt recovery methods employed by the Council and the practices of other local authorities.

It was agreed in terms of Section 50A(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 as amended, that the public and press be excluded from the meeting on the grounds that consideration of the following item involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in the respective paragraphs of Part I of Schedule 7(A) of the Act, as detailed in the Minute of the relevant Committee.
