What are the procedures at the crematorium on the day of the funeral?
The cortège arrives at the crematorium and the coffin will be brought into the chapel followed by the mourners. The Crematorium Attendants will be on hand to direct people to their seats and the ensure that the correct music is played on entry and exit and sometimes during the funeral service.
All mourners will then be directed by the Funeral Director or Clergy to stand as the coffin enters the chapel. Once the coffin has been placed on the catafalque, the service will proceed.
As the committal of the body takes place, curtains will be drawn around the coffin. The mourners will leave the chapel and are able to then express personal condolences and view floral tributes to the deceased.
