Do I need photo ID to Vote?

Voters are now legally required at some elections to show photo ID when voting at a polling station. Please see the main Elections section of our website shown in the Related Links section of this page for clarification on whether this is a requirement in any current Election.

Please see the Electoral Commission page on Voter ID shown in the Other Websites section of this page for more information on what is required and in particular the full list of acceptable forms of photo ID. Please ensure you select "Scotland" as your location to ensure you get the correct information.

If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, please note you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate on page shown at the Other Websites section of this page. You can also apply by post to the local Electoral Registration Office shown in the Contacts section of this page and should contact them for the neccessary form.

Please see the main Elections section of our website shown in the Related Links section of this page for details of the deadline to apply for a VoterAuthority Certifiate in any current Election.
