Port Glasgow Town Centre Regeneration Forum

Purpose:

The Port Glasgow Town Centre Regeneration Forum (PGTCRF) will pursue the regeneration of Port Glasgow Town Centre, to ensure that it is an attractive place to live, work, shop and visit.

The PGTCRF will not be a decision-making body, but will provide recommendations to the Environment and Regeneration Committee of Inverclyde Council (IC) for its consideration. 

Objectives:

Port Glasgow Town Centre is one of the main areas of retail activity in Inverclyde and the plans and policies of Inverclyde Council, strive to safeguard, enhance and develop it as a major shopping, leisure and cultural centre of the area.  In the current difficult retail trading conditions, the PGTCRF will work with IC officers; concentrating on major Regeneration projects were possible, as well as additional projects from external funders.

The primary objectives of the PGTCRF will be to:-

  • Identify and realise investment opportunities in the area;
  • Identify barriers to redevelopment;
  • Involve and engage local community groups, businesses and people;
  • Work with IC to revitalise the existing built environment;
  • Work with IC in the development of a Housing, Retail and Cultural regeneration strategy for Port Glasgow Town Centre and;
  • Support IC to source external funding to enable priority projects to be implemented and help to identify future projects and funding streams; for the continued viability of the Port Glasgow Town Centre.

The PGTCRF will seek to promote, support and advocate for:-

  • Ongoing and Sustainable Regeneration;
  • Ongoing Investment;
  • Improving the Town Centre ‘Offer’ – Boosting Enterprise and New Business and;
  • To work collaboratively for the improvement and enhancement of Port Glasgow.

Composition:

Members will include representatives from Inverclyde Council, Business Community, Community Council(s) and local Elected Members from Wards 1 and 2, and will consist of the following members:-

  • Ward 1 & 2 Elected Members (one Member will take on the role of Chair);
  • Community Council and Residents Action Group Representatives;
  • Federation of Small Businesses;
  • Chamber of Commerce;
  • River Clyde Homes;
  • Tourist Group;
  • Traders Representatives from the Town Centre Businesses, and;
  • Relevant Project Specific Inverclyde Council Officers and IC Regeneration Manager and/or Head of Service, Regeneration, Planning & Public Protection.
