An Inverclyde Council service providing out of school care for children with additional support needs has been given a glowing report by official inspectors.

Craigmarloch School

The Care Inspectorate found positive relationships between staff and children at Play 4 All in Port Glasgow. Their report also praised staff for acting as role models and for ensuring children’s routines and specific health needs are met.

Centre Manager Nicola Newman said: “I'm extremely proud our hard work has been recognised by the Care Inspectorate. The staff strive to meet the individual needs of the children attending and the report has highlighted we are getting it right. We work closely with children and families in everything we do.”

Play 4 All operates from Craigmarloch School in the Port Glasgow Community Campus during term-time and the school holidays.

Children told inspectors they enjoyed coming to sessions and liked the staff and parents said they were very happy with the service provided for their child.

“I use the holiday club and feel it is invaluable. I am confident in staff and feel they know each child very well. Activities are very well organised and there is a wide range. It is safe and gives every child freedom to be children and play.”

“My daughter loves attending Play 4 All both in and out of term time. The staff work with her to ensure she is involved in the weekly activities plan and take her ideas and suggestions on board.”

Education Convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: “This is an excellent report and I would like to congratulate everyone involved for their achievement. I was particularly pleased to see how the children and their families are involved in the evaluation and improvement planning for the service and that children feel safe and included. This report is a fine reward for a lot of hard work by a lot of people and I am sure the service will continue to go from strength to strength.”

The Care Inspectorate’s evaluations for Play 4 All are:

Quality of care and support 5 – Very Good

Quality of management and leadership 5 – Very Good
