To Absent Friends – Compassionate Inverclyde
Inverclyde Council is inviting people to take part in a national celebration of the lives of friends and relatives they have loved and lost.
‘To Absent Friends’ festival takes places across Scotland from 1-7 November 2016 and will be marked by the Council in a ceremony at the Wellpark in Greenock on Thursday 3 November.
People are being asked to complete a short note in memory of a loved one and to tie it to the Tree for Absent Friends.
Provost Robert Moran said: “For many years it was a Scottish tradition to express loss and remembrance of a loved one when they died. People remain a part of our lives even when they are gone and this event gives us the opportunity to celebrate, reminisce and revise lost traditions.”
To celebrate the lives of those we have loved and lost people are invited to complete a short note in memory of a loved one and tie it to the Tree for Absent Friends on Thursday 3 November 2016 at 1pm in the Wellpark, Greenock.
Provost Moran – who will tie the first note to the tree - added: “All of the notes will be gathered and burned with the ashes being scattered at the Tree for Absent Friends. Grief is a natural part of life and we should support each other through these difficult times by remembering the happy times of the lives of those we have lost.”
