2017 Local Government Elections

Elections to the Inverclyde Council will take place on Thursday 4 May 2017

Voting in these elections will take place between 7am and 10pm for all registered voters who are aged 16 or over on the day of the election.

Published notices for these elections are available at the documents section of this page.

If you want to vote on 4 May 2017, you must be registered to do so. You can check that your name is on the electoral register by calling the local Electoral Registration Office on the details shown at the contacts section of this page.

You can also register to vote or update your name, address or other details on the electoral register by visiting the online voter registration page of the UK Government website, shown at the links section of this page.

The deadline for registering in time to vote in the Scottish Local Government Elections is 5pm on Monday 17 April 2017.

Poll Cards for the election will be sent out following publication of the Notice of Election.   The poll card will confirm whether you have to vote in person, or whether you have a postal vote, a proxy vote, or a postal proxy vote. The poll card will also confirm your local polling place if you are voting in person.

Please check the details on the poll card carefully as there have recently been a significant number of changes to ward and polling district boundaries, meaning your polling place may have changed since you last voted.

Postal & Postal Proxy Voting

Applications for a postal vote or a postal proxy vote should be made to the local Electoral Registration Office on the details shown at the contacts section of this page.

The last date to apply for a postal or postal proxy vote, or to amend an existing postal or postal proxy vote, is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April 2017.

Proxy Voting

You can also apply for a proxy vote so that someone else can vote on your behalf. Applications for a proxy vote should be made to the local Electoral Registration Office on the details shown at the contacts section of this page.

The last date to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2017.

The last date to apply to vote by emergency proxy because of medical emergency or for work/service reasons is 5pm on Thursday 4 May 2017. Such applications will only be acceptable if:

  • in the case of an application on grounds of medical emergency, the emergency must have occurred after 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2017; or
  • in the case of an application on grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware after 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2017 that they cannot go to the polling place.
