You should use the relevant Guidance Notes to help you complete the appropriate Application Form.
Refer to the Form Submission Options (also in the Documents section on the left side of this page) to help you to choose the method of completion and submission that suits you.
As the cremation authority, Inverclyde Council will check the form to make sure it contains all of the necessary information. Missing information or information that is not accurate may result in the cremation being delayed or refused. If this form has not been completed correctly or is incomplete, the cremation authority will contact you to complete the form before the cremation can take place.
As the person who is applying for the cremation, you are ‘the applicant’. You must have the legal right to apply for the cremation. If you are unsure about any of the information that is required, or are not sure what any part of the form means, you read the guidance notes or speak to the funeral director who is making the arrangements, staff at the crematorium, or to any other person who is arranging the funeral.
If you require information about cremation services, please contact Greenock Crematorium (refer to Contacts section of the page).
Follow the Related Link to the Charging Booklet for current costs.
Return of ashes to Cremation Authority by Funeral Director
Where a funeral director, in accordance with instructions from the applicant, has removed ashes/cremated remains from Greenock Crematorium and has subsequently been unable to obtain further instructions from the applicant, the ashes/cremated remains can be returned to Greenock Crematorium. The Funeral Director should complete the appropriate form (available to download on left side of page) and submit this along with the ashes/cremated remains. Please refer to the instructions that accompany the form to ensure that this process has been followed in relation to the timescales set out in regulation.

Floral tributes at Crematorium
During a funeral service, family floral tributes will be displayed. Based on the size of the tributes, a maximum of three will be permitted into the main chapel. No tributes should be placed on the catafalque (the raised platform where the coffin is placed) to avoid water staining. Nothing should be placed on top of the coffin as this should now be received for cremation. If there are a large number of tributes, they will be displayed on the stand at the front entrance to the Crematorium until the end of the service.
After the service, floral tributes will be moved to the display area where they will remain for at least five days. After this time, they will be disposed of unless we have been advised otherwise. The floral tributes may be placed where the cremated remains have been scattered but this will be for the family or funeral director to arrange. However, we will remove them once they become withered.
Inverclyde Council cannot accept responsibility for floral tributes left at the crematorium following a funeral service or those placed in the Garden of Remembrance. There is wildlife within the grounds of the Crematorium and they are attracted to and liable to feed on the fresh flowers. It is important that people are aware of this as it can cause distress to families if the tributes have been damaged on their visit to the Gardens.
